William C. “Bill” Carbaugh

William C. “Bill” Carbaugh, age 90, of Seneca, died Tuesday morning, August 30, 2011 at his home.

Born June 24, 1921 in Seneca, he was the son of the late Earl and Mary Highland Carbaugh.

He attended schools in Cranberry until enlisting in the armed forces.

Mr. Carbaugh was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army Air Corps from 1942 until 1945, where he attained the rank of corporal.

He was a member of the Oil City V.F.W. Post 464.

Bill enjoyed guns of all kinds, spending time with his family, and cutting the grass.

He was employed as a field electrician for a number of local companies.

He was married on February 17, 1942, at Oakwood Rose Gardens, Oil City, to the former Lena Speerstra, who preceded him in death.

Surviving are two children, Priscilla Gharing and husband Thomas of Rockland, and John Carbaugh and his wife Susan of Seneca; six grandchildren, Scott Gharing of Seneca, Todd Gharing of Rockland, Lisa and Teresa Carbaugh, both of Florida, and Ben and Ken Carbaugh, both of Seneca; numerous great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert Carbaugh of Knox. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Hockman.

Friends will be received Wednesday (Aug. 31st) from 7-9 p.m. in the Hile-Best Funeral Home, Inc., 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca, Cranberry Township.

Visitation will also be held at the funeral home Thursday (Sept. 1st) from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11 a.m. Rev. William E. Hastings, pastor of Seneca United Methodist Church will officiate.

Military honors will be accorded at the funeral home following the funeral service.

Interment will be in Heckathorn Cemetery, Cranberry Township, Venango County.
