Letter to the Editor: Do Most Clarion County Citizens Support the Annex?
We are told by the Commissioners that most of Clarion County’s citizens are in favor of building the annex.
We are hearing the opposite. It is time to let the Commissioners know that many are against it.
Actually people are commenting on what a foolish looking building and unnecessary expense this project will be. It certainly seems it should have been on the ballot, but that was denied.
Building another unnecessary and ugly building is not only a burden on our taxpayers, it sets up a requirement for additional future ongoing maintenance. Certainly some time during the 30 to 40 years taxpayers are expected to pay over $500,000 a year, the annex itself will require maintenance.
No answers have been provided to the question of why practically no maintenance has been done on county-owned buildings such as the old hospital building or the old jail, or even the new jail that needs a new roof.
We are told that the old jail has mold issues, but on a tour of the old jail, only one small spot was pointed out to the tour members. Also, in response to the question of what mold experts had said about the mold, the group was also told that no mold experts had ever actually been contacted.
It was shocking to hear one Clarion County Commissioner’s comment that the previous Commissioners had no maintenance done on the county-owned properties for the past 15 years! (not true, by the way).
We need to let the Commissioners know that many are against building he annex. Those of you also against this, please let the Commissioners know by your phone calls, emails or letters.
