Dangerous Snow Squall Expected to Hit Clarion County, Surrounding Areas

CLARION COUNTY, Pa. (EYT) – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for Clarion County and surrounding areas.

The following Special Weather Statement was issued by the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh at 10:47 a.m. on Wednesday:

A DANGEROUS SNOW SQUALL WILL AFFECT CLARION…FOREST…JEFFERSON…NORTHEASTERN BUTLER…NORTHEASTERN MERCER…NORTHERN
ARMSTRONG AND VENANGO COUNTIES…

A SNOW SQUALL WILL RESULT IN NEAR WHITEOUT CONDITIONS WITH VISIBILITIES DROPPING TO LESS THAN A QUARTER OF A MILE AND WINDS
GUSTING UP TO 40 MPH AS IT RAPIDLY MOVES SOUTH. THIS WILL RESULT IN DANGEROUS DRIVING CONDITIONS ALONG INTERSTATE 80 AND SURROUNDING AREAS. THE COMBINATION OF RAPIDLY CHANGING VISIBILITIES AND SLICK ROADS WILL SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASE THE LIKELIHOOD OF ACCIDENTS AND MOTORISTS ARE URGED TO USE EXTRA CAUTION IF YOU MUST TRAVEL AND CANNOT DELAY TRAVEL UNTIL EARLY THIS AFTERNOON WHEN CONDITIONS IMPROVE.

The following Urgent Winter Weather Message was issued by the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh:

ARMSTRONG – CLARION – FOREST – INDIANA – JEFFERSON – MERCER – VENANGO

WIND CHILL ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 7 AM WEDNESDAY TO 1 PM EST THURSDAY

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 7 AM WEDNESDAY TO 4 AM EST THURSDAY

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN PITTSBURGH HAS ISSUED A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SNOW…WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 7 AM WEDNESDAY TO 4 AM EST THURSDAY.

A WIND CHILL ADVISORY HAS ALSO BEEN ISSUED.

THIS WIND CHILL ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FROM 7 AM WEDNESDAY TO 1 PM EST THURSDAY.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS…4 TO 7 INCHES.

* SNOW BEGINNING…WEDNESDAY MORNING.

* PERIOD OF MOST INTENSE SNOW…WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING.

* SNOW ENDING…WEDNESDAY NIGHT.

* IMPACTS…HAZARDOUS TRAVEL CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED DUE TO SNOW COVERED ROADS.

* WINDS…WEST 10 TO 20 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 35 MPH.

* WIND CHILL…10 TO 20 BELOW.

* IMPACTS…FROST BITE AND HYPOTHERMIA ARE POSSIBLE IF PRECAUTIONS ARE NOT TAKEN.

Instructions: A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SNOW MEANS THAT SNOW WILL CAUSE TRAVEL DIFFICULTIES. BE PREPARED FOR SNOW COVERED ROADS AND LIMITED VISIBILITY.

REPORT SNOW ACCUMULATION TO THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BY CALLING 412-262-1988, POSTING TO THE NWS PITTSBURGH FACEBOOK PAGE, OR USING TWITTER @NWSPITTSBURGH.

A WIND CHILL ADVISORY MEANS THAT VERY COLD AIR AND STRONG WIND WILL PRODUCE LOW WIND CHILL INDICES. THIS COULD RESULT IN FROST BITE AND HYPOTHERMIA IF PRECAUTIONS ARE NOT TAKEN.
