Man Charged for UPMC Northwest Active Shooter Prank Call, Allegedly Punches Aide in Face

CRANBERRY TWP., Pa. (EYT) — A 27-year old man is facing charges following a false report of an active shooter at UPMC Northwest in Seneca, Venango County..

According to a criminal complaint filed by Franklin-based State Police, 27-year-old Grant William Stamm, of Pittsburgh, faces the following charges in connection with the incident:

  • Aggravated Assault
  • False Alarm To Agency Of Public Safety, Misdemeanor 1

On April 27 at 7:51 a.m., Stamm allegedly made a “false alarm” call to the Venango County 911 Center from a telephone at the UPMC Northwest.

Stamm allegedy told a 911 dispatcher, “There’s been a shooting at the hospital and I need help.”

Franklin-based State Police and several other agencies responded to the call and found the report to be unfounded.

Police say Stamm admitted to making the false call and said that he “simply did it as a prank, not realizing that the police would respond.”

Around 9:12 a.m., State Police were dispatched to UPMC Northwest a second time for a report of an assault.

During the course of this investigation it was discovered that Stamm allegedly punched a hospital aide.

According to the criminal complaint, the aide stated that Stamm punched her in the face with a closed fist while she was attempting to provide care for him.

A witness confirmed that Stamm punched the aide in the face with a closed fist, according to the complaint.

Stamm was placed in the Venango County Jail in lieu of $100,000 cash bail.

He was arraigned at 11:40 a.m. on April 27 in front of Magisterial District Judge Patrick E. Lowrey.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 4.
