FRYBURG, Pa. — The application deadline for the Washington Township Community Association Scholarship fund has been extended to May 14, 2016.

Earlier this year, the Clarion County Community Foundation, an affiliate of Bridge Builders Community Foundations, introduced the new scholarship fund. It was created by the Washington Township Community Association, a nonprofit organization that coordinates the annual Mayfest in the communities of Fryburg and Marble to give back to the community.

Eric Schmader, a committee member of the Washington Township Community Association, says, “As Mayfest and the association has grown over the years, the committee felt that offering a scholarship was another means of giving back to the community, and this year it will be in memory of local school teacher Paul Zacherl.”

The scholarship was created to help local students further their education and tap into opportunities beyond high school. Graduates of North Clarion High School; Keystone High School; Cranberry High School; or Venango Catholic High School with a GPA of 2.5 or higher are eligible to apply for the scholarship. It is offered to any person who is accepted to and attends an accredited, trade school, college, or university.

This year there will be two $1,000.00 scholarships offered.

“The partnership with Bridge Builders was important because the association can utilize Bridge Builders’ experience in drafting and creating this scholarship as well as administering it for the association to maximize its growth and impact,” explains Schmader.

“This partnership is a wonderful example of how even very small communities can leverage their resources to meet opportunities in their very own back yard,” adds Trenton Moulin, executive director of Bridge Builders Community Foundations.

Any student who is eligible for the scholarship can either contact his/her school’s guidance counselor or Trenton Moulin at 814-677-8687.
