Good News of the Week: Clarion U. SAAC Teams with Local Preschool to Raise $1,500 for St. Jude’s Hospital

CLARION, Pa. – Members of the Clarion Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) teamed with a local preschool to provide a fun activity for children on Friday, all while raising money for a worthy cause.

On Friday morning, one of the auxiliary basketball courts in Tippin Gymnasium turned into a bike track as children from Clarion Christian Preschool participated in a Bike-a-Thon. The event was co-sponsored by SAAC and gave more than a dozen children the opportunity to learn about bicycle safety in a controlled, fun environment.

The children have spent several days learning about bicycle safety and today were able to put their skills to the test, albeit indoors due to the rainy weather in Clarion. The kids were split into two groups, with one group riding their bikes around the improvised track and the others working on crafts and playing with bicycle safety coloring books.

In order to participate in the event, the kids were asked to raise money for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. They learned the story of why St. Jude’s was founded – tailored to their age and understanding – and made kites that would be sent to children at the hospital. Thanks to the donations of friends and family, they raised approximately $1,500 for St. Jude’s on Friday.
