Ross A. McGinnis Service Award Applications Due May 31

CLARION CO., Pa. – Those applying for the annual Ross McGinnis Memorial Service Award are reminded that applications are due by Tuesday, May 31.

The heroic act of SPC Ross A. McGinnis has touched the lives of many people in Clarion County and neighboring communities. McGinnis’ patriotism and sacrifice earned him The Medal of Honor, a Purple Heart and a Silver Star for Valor.

Another tribute to his valor occurred when a Keystone SMILES AmeriCorps Alum chose to contribute to McGinnis’ legacy, which can now live on through other service focused deeds of individuals. The Alum’s donation of $5000 established the beginning of a memorial endowment fund. The first scholarships were awarded in December 2007.

The annual Ross McGinnis Memorial Service Awards will be awarded on June 14.

Below are details on the Keystone SMILES Ross McGinnis Memorial Service Award, along with additional information about eligibility.

Applications for the Ross McGinnis Memorial Awards are due May 31, 2016.

The scholarships are for students who are committed to providing outstanding service to their church, school or community. Anyone attending or who will be attending college, technical school or any other post-secondary training program is eligible to apply.

The Honor “Service” Award recipient must have attended or currently attend a high school or post-secondary school located in one of the ten counties Keystone SMILES AmeriCorps service programs are being implemented.

The Silver “Service” Award recipient must have attended or currently attend a Clarion County Public or Private School and will be enrolled in a post-secondary technical/ career/ educational institution to access the award.

The Bronze “Service” Award recipient must have attended or currently attend Keystone High School, Clarion Career Center or Keystone SMILES Alternative Education Program and will be enrolled in a post-secondary technical/ career/ educational institution to access the award.

Application and Submission Information

Deadlines: Applications must be submitted online and certifications post marked no later than May 31

3. Complete all items on checklist detailed on last page of instructions and certification page

4. Upload all required items to online application

a. Complete resume (uploaded as attachment to online application) – example in instructions

b. Service reference letter (uploaded as attachment to online application)

c. Character reference letter (uploaded as attachment to online application)

d. Documentation of high school attendance and GPA (high school diploma and either high school/ college transcripts, uploaded as attachment to online application)

e. Picture for media release (uploaded as attachment to online application)

5. Print and complete certification page
