YMCA News: June Programs Offered

CLARION, Pa. — What makes the YMCA so much more than a gym? Community partnerships, youth sports, senior activities, summer day camp and social activities offer variety.

YMCA programs and events bring people together, strengthening friendships and nurturing the potential of all participants. No one is turned away due to the inability to pay.

YMCA Programs in June

A Literacy and the Great Outdoors Program will be offered at the Clarion County YMCA on Wednesdays, June 8 to June 29 from 3:00 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. The program meets at the YMCA, Clarion County Park, and other locations in the community. Children will explore reading and nature with fun activities. Registration is limited. The cost is free for Members and $20.00 for Non-Members. A Soccer Skills Clinic will be held on Saturdays, June 4th through June 18th, at the Clarion County Park. The Clinic is for ages 4 to 14. Soccer games will be played while techniques and fundamentals are taught. The cost is $12.00 for Members or $26.00 for Non-members. Call the YMCA to register at 814-764-3400.

Summer Soccer Program registration is underway. Summer Soccer for Pre-k through grade 8 begins July 9th and is held at the Clarion County Park. Games are held on Saturdays for seven weeks. The cost is $20.00 for YMCA Members and $45.00 for Non-members. Register at the Clarion County YMCA by June 24th or print registration forms at www.clarioncountyymca.org/resources.

A 5k Home Run/Walk and Kids’ Fun Run will be held on Saturday, June 18, in Clarion. The race begins on Second and Wood Street and ends at Clarion University’s Memorial Stadium. Pre-register to receive an event T-shirt by June 6th. This event benefits the Clarion County YMCA and the Clarion Little League. Community Strong is a new program forming at the Clarion County YMCA for anyone who would like instruction on powerlifting, Olympic lifting, or those wishing to get stronger and need lifting tips. Coaches Jesse Kelley and Kurtis Bell will be available to coach, spot, and give lifting and nutrition advice. The program meets in the YMCA free weight room from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday and from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturdays. This program is free to YMCA members during the month of June. Non-members can join the program by paying a day pass for $5.00 per visit. Intro to Fitness for Teens will be offered June 13th through August 17th at the YMCA on Mondays and Wednesdays from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Teenagers ages 12 to 18 will participate in a variety of activities including flexibility, strength, cardio, speed –agility-quickness and balance, and more. The cost for this program is $60.00 for Members and $120.00 for Non-Members. Register at the YMCA or print a registration form at www.clarioncountyymca.org/resources.

Member Appreciation Day will be held on June 7th. Free Smoothies will be offered to YMCA members from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. inside the YMCA.

The Clarion Borough Pool, operated by the Clarion County YMCA, opens June 4th for the summer and is open 7 days a week, 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and until 8:00 p.m. on Fridays, weather permitting. Pool passes are available at the Clarion County YMCA or at the Borough Pool beginning June 4th. The cost for a family pool pass is $210.00 for a family of up to five or $110.00 for a single child, adult, or senior. Day passes are $5.00. Pool Parties are available throughout the summer. Swim Lessons at the Clarion Borough Pool will be offered in June, July, and August. Lessons are one-on-one with an instructor. Three month-long sessions are being offered. Register at the Clarion County YMCA or print a registration form at www.clarioncountyymca.org/resources.

Summer Competitive Swim Team will be offered at Clarion University’s Tippin Pool on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday during June and July for swimmers who have completed at least one year of YMCA Swim Team. Children will have the opportunity to swim in three local meets. The cost is $90.00 for YMCA Members. Registration forms are available at www.clarioncountyymca.org/resources.

Adult Water Aerobics Classes will be offered at the Clarion Borough Pool June 28 through August 18th from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Water aerobics classes offer all the benefits of cardiovascular exercise with low impact. Register by calling the Clarion County YMCA.

A Family Fun Day will be held at the Clarion Borough Pool on June 25th from 12:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Pool games, yard games, and other activities will be provided FREE. Pool admission fees are required. Pre-registration is not necessary.

Group Exercise Packages are available and offer a full month of any of the class offerings for $15.00 for YMCA members or $50.00 for non-members. SilverSneakers Classes are now offered on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings and Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Join our growing group of older adults that enjoy our SilverSneakers Wellness Program, game days, luncheons, and socializing at the YMCA.

Child Watch is available at the YMCA facility for children ages eight months through six years old while their parents are using the YMCA facility. Parents must remain inside the YMCA.

The entire family can participate in the Paul Richey Memorial 5k, Kids’ Run and Half Marathon event on June 11, 2016. It benefits the Oil City YMCA. Pick your event: a 5K Run, a 5K Walk, a Half Marathon, or a Kids’ Fun Run! Visit www.theprrun.com for the full details on this event. The PR Run Student challenge encourages kids in grades K through 12 to participate and win prizes. Save $5.00 when you register online at www.theprrun.com.

YMCA Camp Coffman

YMCA Summer Day Camp is available daily during the summer months for ages 6 through 12 through the Clarion County YMCA and the Oil City YMCA. Bus transportation and extended care are available at no extra cost. Visit www.campcoffman.com to pick your theme weeks. Call 814-670-0594 for more information.

Camp Coffman Activities are available by advance reservation.  Zip lining, Climbing and Free Fall, Team Building, Paintball, and Trail Rides are available to the public. Call the Oil City YMCA for reservations at 814-677-3000.

Full Camp Rentals and Weekday Cabin Specials are available. Rent a cabin for two weeknights and get a third night free when you book by July 1st. Call the Oil City YMCA for reservations at 814-677-3000.

The Clarion County YMCA June hours are: Weekdays 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The YMCA is closed on Sundays through September 3.
