Rhoads, McFarland Win Fryburg Mayfest 5k; Race Held in Honor of Paul Karg

FRYBURG, Pa. (EYT) – Over 140 runners participated in the 7th Annual Fryburg Mayfest 5k Fun Run/Walk on Friday, May 27. This year’s race was held in memory of Paul F. Karg.

Mark Rhoads, of Fryburg, was the overall male winner with a time of 18:58. Joseph Crate, of Venus, finished in second with a time of 19:25, followed by Josh Homan, of Lucinda, coming in at 19:53.

The overall female winner was Roxanne McFarland, of Tylersburg, with a time of 20:12. McFarland was followed by Trinity Thompson at 21:35 and Rachel Fry at 21:38.

The race started at Saint Michael’s Church on State Route 208 and continued through the rolling hills of Marble and Fryburg.

Proceeds from the event will be donated to a 2017 scholarship fund in Paul F. Karg’s name.

About Paul F. Karg

Paul F. Karg, the son of Margaret and the late Donald Karg, grew up in the Venus area. He was the youngest of six children.

A 1983 graduate of North Clarion High School, Paul later attended lumber school in Memphis. He worked in the lumber industry for over 20 years, eventually becoming the yard foreman for Allegheny Wood Products in Marble.

He married his wife, Alicia, on October 6, 2007. They have 2 children, Sean and Evan. He loved being a father and was very proud of his boys.

Along with spending time with friends and family, Paul was an avid golfer and car enthusiast. He was a member of Clarion Oaks Golf Course and the Fryburg Sportsman’s Club.
