Police File New Charges Against Local Businessman for Collecting Payments for Undelivered Products

CLARION, Pa. (EYT) — Additional charges have been filed against a local businessman who is accused of intentionally deceiving several individuals by collecting payment for products that were never delivered, nor refunds given.

According to court documents, Officer William Peck, of the Clarion Borough Police Department, filed the following two new cases in Magisterial District Judge Duane L. Quinn’s office against 36-year-old Jason Bruce Reed, of Shippenville, on the following incidents:

– First-degree misdemeanor charges were filed for Theft By Deception-False Impression stemming from an incident that occurred on May 29, 2015.

– Third-degree felony charges were filed for Theft By Deception-False Impression regarding an incident that occurred on November 4, 2015.

No additional information on these cases is available at this time.

Reed now faces criminal charges stemming from 12 incidents.

Previous Theft By Deception Cases Against Reed

According to court documents filed on May 11, Jason Bruce Reed is accused of collecting over $45,000.00 for products that were never delivered, nor refunds given.

Court records indicate Detective Peck, of Clarion Borough Police Department, investigated the following claims against Jason Bruce Reed, owner of SIC Metals, of Clarion:

September 24, 2013 Case: A known man ordered an aluminum trailer from Reed, paid the full amount of $4,375.00, and never received the trailer.

November 29, 2013 Case: A known man came to Clarion and met with Reed. He gave Reed a check for $1,000.00 payable to SIC Metals. In spite of communications via emails with Reed, the victim did not receive the trailer or his refund for the deposit.

December 4, 2013 Case: A known man ordered a 7×22 Custom Aluminum Utility Trailer from SIC Metals. The known man allegedly paid a deposit of $4,450.00 to have the trailer built with an invoice due date of April 15, 2014. The victim has not received his trailer or a refund for his deposit of $4,450.00 from SIC Metals.

May 10, 2014 Case: A known man from Waynesboro, Va., stated that he ordered three trailers from SIC Metals. He paid for all three trailers in advance per the request of Reed and received one of the trailers. After the victim placed his order for the three trailers, he ordered a 6.5×16 aluminum trailer on June 15, 2014. The victim has not received the trailers or a refund for $7,550.00. Deposits of $3,600.00 and $5,900.00 were placed into SIC Metals & Fabrication bank account.

August 23, 2014 Case: A known man ordered and paid for a 7×24 aluminum utility trailer for $9,500.00 from SIC Metals. On May 3, 2016, Detective Peck talked to the victim who indicated that his projection date of completion of the trailer was 90 days which would have been November of 2014. The victim hasn’t received the trailer or a refund as of May 3, 2016.

November 2, 2014 Case: A known man of Albuquerque, NM, contacted SIC Metals by phone as he saw they were selling utility trailers through eBay. The victim said they agreed on a custom aluminum trailer for the amount of $6,200.00 and Reed wanted payment in full because it was a “custom” trailer. The victim said that he sent a check dated November 8, 2014, in the amount of $6,200.00 after discussing the purchase with Reed. The check has been cashed and was deposited by SIC Metals. The victim said that he attempted to contact SIC Metals in reference to his trailer numerous times and hasn’t received a reply.

March/Spring of 2015 Case: A known man ordered a 5×10 aluminum trailer for $2,275.00 from SIC Metals. He sent Reed money orders in the amount of $1,137.50. As of May 4, 2016, the victim has not received his trailer or a refund for his deposit.

April 10, 2015 Case: A known man stated he ordered a 5x1O aluminum trailer from SIC Metals and paid in full $3,350.00 which included shipping costs to get the trailer to him in Alaska. The completion date on the victim’s contract with SIC metals was for July 23, 2015. The victim hasn’t received his trailer or a refund for his deposit of $3,350.00, and his emails and phone inquiries have not been answered or returned.

April 13, 2015 Case: A known man ordered a custom aluminum dock for a purchase price of $10,850.00 from SIC Metals. On April 22, 2015, he paid 1/3 of the costs in advance in the amount of $3,671.00 for a deposit. The projected completion time of the contract was listed as the end of Summer/early Fall of 2015. As of May 3, 2016, the victim hasn’t received the dock or his deposit returned to him, as he as requested from the owner Jason Bruce Reed. The victim provided the copy of his invoice dated April 13, 2015, a copy of his issued check dated April 22, 2015, and copies of emails between himself and Reed.

October 16, 2015 Case: A known man of Sulligent, AL, stated that he ordered a 6X12 aluminum trailer from SIC Metals in the amount of $5,625.00. The victim provided an invoice with an estimated completion date of the trailer of November 30, 2015, through December 15, 2015. The invoice indicated that 50% deposit was approved by Reed. The victim produced a copy of his cancelled check dated October 19, 2015, made payable to SIC Metals in the amount of $2,812.50. As of May 4, 2016, the victim has not received his ordered trailer or the return of his deposit.

Criminal charges filed against Reed:

Based on his investigation, Detective Peck requested Reed answer to the following charges:

  • Theft By Deception-False Impression, Misdemeanor 1 (three counts)
  • Theft By Deception-False Impression, Felony 3 (seven counts)
  • Theft By Unlawful Taking-Movable Property, Felony 3
  • Theft By Deception-False Impression, Misdemeanor 1

Reed is free on $10,000.00 cash bail.

Preliminary Hearing Scheduled

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for all charges against Reed at 10:15 a.m. on June 7 with Judge Quinn presiding.
