BEAVER TWP., Pa. (EYT) — Two men face criminal charges stemming from a theft that was reported in Beaver Township, Clarion County.

According to court documents, Clarion-based State Police filed criminal charges against 30-year-old Eric Jackson Rhoades, Jr., of Shippenville, and 30-year-old Matthew Scott Marshall, of Greensburg.

According to a criminal complaint, around 3:33 p.m. on May 6, a known woman contacted PSP Clarion to report that a relative — Eric Rhoades — stole her Toyota RAV4 from her garage. The woman stated that she was on vacation and had a Knox woman watch her house.

The complaint states that the Knox woman contacted the victim to report the Toyota was no longer in her garage. The victim indicated that Rhoades had permission to be in her home but “under no circumstance was allowed to drive her vehicle.” The victim indicated that she and Rhoades had a conversation on June 1 in which he asked to drive the vehicle, and the victim denied his request.

“Jeannette Police Officer Yaniszeski found the stolen vehicle in the possession of Rhoades. Matthew Marshall was operating the vehicle,” the complaint continues.

According to a criminal complaint filed by Officer Yaniszeski, a call was received around 6:54 p.m. on June 6 concerning three males sleeping inside a light green Toyota Rave located in the parking lot of a known establishment, and one male appeared to be under the influence.

Upon arrival, Officer Yaniszeski observed the vehicle pulling out of the parking lot, and it drove off the curb, and then swerved, almost hitting the curb. The vehicle was driving very slowly and swerving, thus a traffic stop was initiated.

The three occupants were identified as Matthew Marshall, the driver; Eric Rhoades, a passenger; and a known male passenger.

Officer Yaniszeski was notified by Westmoreland County 911 that the vehicle was reported stolen. All three males were handcuffed and placed into the rear of police cars to be transported back to Jeannette Police Department.

Suspected Heroin, a spoon, a metal crack pipe, and other drug paraphernalia were allegedly found in the vehicle, according to Yaniszeski’s complaint.

PSP Clarion filed criminal complaints against Rhoades and Marshall on the following charges:

  • Theft By Unlawful Taking-Movable Property, Felony 3
  • Conspiracy — Theft By Unlawful Taking-Movable Property, Felony 3
  • Unauthorized Use Motor/Other Vehicles, Misdemeanor 2

A date for preliminary hearings in front of Judge Amy Turk Long in Knox have not yet been set.
