CLAY TWP., Pa. (EYT) – Authorities say a 14-year-old boy drowned Saturday night in Clay Township, Butler County.

State Police say the incident happened around 9 p.m. after the juvenile went for a swim in a pond along Shroyer Mill Road, located approximately 10 miles south of West Sunbury.

The victim — Destin Badeau, 14, of Carrick — was attending a nearby family picnic at the time of the incident.

Sources say family members pulled Badeau from the pond and performed CPR.

Medical personnel arrived on the scene a short time later but were unable to revive the boy.

He was pronounced dead at an area hospital.

The incident remains under investigation.

“He was funny, silly, smart, kind, generous and always wanted to help people,” said a family member. “He was his parents only child and the love of their lives.”

A GoFundMe account has established to help the family with funeral costs.
