Details Released on Head-On Collision on Route 322; Two Seriously Injured

ELK TWP., Pa. (EYT) — Clarion-based State Police released details on an accident that occurred around 2:17 p.m. on July 12 in a construction zone, on State Route 322, in Elk Township, Clarion County.

According to police, 73-year-old Daniel Goodman, of Knox; Laura J. Silvis, of Knox; and 41-year-old John D. Cessna, of Shelocta, were involved in the collision.

Police say this crash occurred as a 2013 Ford Escape — driven by Goodman — was traveling east on Route 322, west of Soapfat Road. Goodman failed to stop at a red light providing traffic control for a construction zone. The Ford Escape entered the one lane construction zone and struck a 2003 Dodge Dakota — driven by Silvis — traveling west on Route 322.

The front of the Ford struck the front of the Dodge. Upon impact, the Ford traveled approximately 24 feet while spinning approximately 90 degrees counterclockwise, striking a parked construction vehicle — operated by Cessna. The right rear of the Ford struck the left rear tire of the construction vehicle. The Ford then spun clockwise approximately 180 degrees and traveled approximately six feet in a northern direction and came to a final rest.

The Dodge Dakota was pushed 19 feet backwards from the initial impact point and came to a rest in the travel lane.

The construction vehicle came to rest at the point of impact.

Goodman and Silvis suffered suspected serious injuries.

According to a previous report, Silvis was taken to UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh where she is in critical condition with fractured ribs, a spleen laceration, and being closely monitored for any internal bleeding.

No information is available on Goodman.

Both drivers were using seat belts.

Cessna suffered suspected minor injuries.

A 7-month old infant in Silvis’ vehicle escaped injury.

Goodman was charged with a traffic violation.

A representative of Clarion County Office of Emergency Services told exploreClarion.com that Shippenville Volunteer Fire Department, two Clarion Hospital Ambulances, two Stat MedEvac helicopters, and Knox Borough Police assisted Clarion-based State Police at the scene.

The above report was released to exploreClarion.com on July 16, 2016.
