HARRISBURG, Pa. – Negotiators reached agreements on some minor issues during contract talks July 26 between the union representing coaches at Pennsylvania’s state-owned universities and the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education.
Healthcare remains a sticking point in the negotiations. The State System’s proposal contains increases to out-of-pocket expenses and changes to premium costs that could cause coaches to pay thousands of dollars more for healthcare.
“It’s good to have made some progress, but that progress is minor, and we still have a long way to go,” said Coach Executive Leader John Gump.
The two teams are slated to continue discussions Sept. 19 and 26. They have been negotiating since late 2014. The coaches’ contract expired June 30, 2015.
APSCUF represents about 5,500 faculty and coaches at the State System universities: Bloomsburg, California, Cheyney, Clarion, East Stroudsburg, Edinboro, Indiana, Kutztown, Lock Haven, Mansfield, Millersville, Shippensburg, Slippery Rock, and West Chester Universities of Pennsylvania.
