Clarview Contributes $13,125 to Sligo Volunteer Fire Department

IMG_2585SLIGO, Pa. (EYT) — Clarview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center recently contributed $13,125.00 to the Sligo Volunteer Fire Department to help with the operation of the company.

Clarview Administrator Scott Jordan (pictured above in center) presented the check to SVFD Secretary Chris Barkeefelt and SVFD Lieutenant Jeff Maybold.

“This is for however the Sligo Fire Company wants to use it,” said Jordan. “Our local fire company is here to protect us, and we need to donate to them.  We just want to support our local community and give back to the community.”

SVFD has a roster of 25 active members and also runs mutual aid with Callensburg and Rimersburg from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. because of manpower issues.

Maybold thinks the fire company will spend the money on equipment.

“We’re going to use it to update our radios and stuff like that for interior and exterior purposes,” said Maybold.  “The radios are mainly used for traffic control at accidents.  A lot of our calls are for accidents, and if you can’t have right radio contacts, you’re putting your own people at risk.”

Jordan said he was struck by the equipment expense facing SVFD.

“Jeff was explaining to me about the rigs they use to go in and fight fires and cost of all those,” said Jordan. “It would nice if people could donate to the fire company, and the costs are approaching $9,000.00 just to have one person suited up.”

Maybold also said if anyone was interested in joining the company, they can get an application at the Fire Hall and the department would be glad to talk to them.
