SCI Forest Inmate Faces Drug Possession Charges After Suboxone Strips Allegedly Discovered Sewn in Shorts

JENKS TWP., Pa. (EYT) — An SCI Forest inmate is facing drug possession and related charges stemming from an alleged incident that occurred in Jenks Township, Forest County.

According to court documents, Marienville-based State Police filed criminal charges against 30-year-old Angel Jose Santiago-Rodriguez, an inmate at SCI Forest, in Jenks Township, Marienville.

According to a criminal complaint, on June 29, State Correctional Institute Forest security department contacted PSP Marienville and advised that an inmate had been found in possession of Suboxone during an investigative cell search.

The complaint states that during a search of inmate Angel Jose Santiago-Rodriguez’s cell, a correction officer found a pocket sewn into the inside his shorts that contained three packages wrapped in plastic. The packages were confiscated, listed as suspected contraband, and taken to the SCI Forest security office.

Upon inspection of the packages, one was discovered to contain a strip of an orange film marked NB. Another package contained 14 individually wrapped sections of the same orange film. The third package contained 24 individually wrapped sections of the orange film. NB is the pharmaceutical marking for the Schedule III controlled substance Suboxone, the complaint continues.

Based on her investigation, Officer Watters, of PSP Marienville, filed a criminal complaint against Santiago-Rodriguez in Magisterial District Judge Daniel L. Miller’s office.

He is awaiting a preliminary hearing on the following charges:

  • Manufacture, Delivery, or Possession With Intent to Manufacture or Deliver, Felony
  • Possession Control Substance, Contraband/Inmate, Felony 2
  • Intentional Possession Controlled Substance By Person Not Registered, Misdemeanor

Santiago-Rodriguez is currently lodged in SCI Forest for crimes of Cocaine possession, possession of firearms-prohibited, aggravated assault, robbery, and related offenses.
