PITTSBURGH, Pa. (EYT) – A Franklin teen, who shot himself following a high-speed chase in Venango County Monday night, passed away Wednesday at a Pittsburgh area hospital.

Franklin-based State Police say the chase occurred around Monday 5:20 p.m. when Marcus Luce, 18, failed to stop after a traffic stop was initiated.

Luce allegedly traveled at an excessive rate of speed on Two Mile Run Road, Warren Road, and State Route 417.

A male juvenile passenger was in the vehicle during the pursuit but Luce slowed down and allowed him to exit before continuing to travel at a high rate of speed, according to police.

The pursuit continued onto State Route 8 into Franklin where Luce allegedly struck a Franklin City Police patrol vehicle before coming to a stop. He then allegedly produced a handgun and shot himself, according to police.

Luce was transported by medical helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian for treatment where he was pronounced dead late Wednesday evening.

The case remains under investigation.
