CLARION, Pa. (EYT) – Clarion Borough Council and the Chamber of Business & Industry are well under way on preparations for the borough’s 175th anniversary celebration set for October 2.

Clarion Borough’s official 175th anniversary fell on April 6, 2016, but will be celebrated on the last day of Autumn Leaf Festival on October 2, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Fifth Avenue between Main and Wood Streets.
“Our hope is that we truly want everyone–borough residents, former borough residents–we want everyone to really come and be a part of it and enjoy the celebration,” said Tracy Becker, executive director of the Clarion Chamber of Commerce.
Festivities will include:
- Presenting of colors at 1:00 p.m.
- Proclamations by congress people, county commissioners, and state representatives
- Historical speakers
- 175-pound ice cream sundae
- Live, local music
- Walking tours of Clarion
The celebration will coincide with the last day of the annual Autumn Leaf Festival, with food vendors and activities also available.
Becker said the October 2 celebration date should allow more people to participate in the event.
“We have the possibility of bringing in 500,000 people throughout the nine days,” Becker explained.
The celebration will take place where the first properties were deeded in the borough.
Becker said that historical speakers like Hank Hufnagel and Clarion University’s Todd Pfannestiel will hopefully speak about the borough.
She added that the celebration is important for the community, and residents should be proud of the borough’s history.
“We’re very fortunate that we’re able to celebrate 175 years,” Becker said.
