Emergency Crews Respond to Route 68 Collision

CLARION TWP., Pa. (EYT) — Clarion-based State Police say a two-vehicle accident occurred around 8:11 p.m. on July 30, on South 5th Avenue (State Route 68), at its intersection with Bauer Road, in Clarion Township.

According to police, 19-year-old Brayanna J. Aites, of Rimersburg, and 51-year-old Michael J. Meals, of Foxburg, were involved in the collision.

Police say a 2002 Ford Windstar — driven by Aites — was traveling west on Bauer Road and failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Bauer Road and Route 68. The Ford Windstar struck a 2011 Hyundai Onata — driven by Meals — that was traveling north on Route 68.

The front of the Ford struck the right side of the Hyundai and continued traveling in a northerly direction approximately 150 feet and came to a rest on the west side of Route 68. After the initial impact, the Hyundai was spun counterclockwise approximately 90 degrees and came to rest straddling the southbound lane of Route 68 and the west berm of the roadway, according to police.

Aites and two passengers — 20-year-old Wesley M. Williams, of Clarion, and 20-year-old Lewis J. Knight, of Shippenville — were not injured. None of the occupants were using seat belts.

Meals was not injured; he was using a seat belt.

Aites was charged with several traffic violations.

Clarion Fire and Hose Company and Clarion Hospital Ambulance responded to the scene.
