Teen Accused of Sending Harassing Texts to Leeper Man

CANAL TWP., Pa. (EYT) — A Franklin teen is facing criminal charges stemming from harassing text messages that he allegedly sent to a former co-worker.

According to court documents, Franklin-based State Police filed criminal charges against 18-year-old Curtis Stephen Mattocks, of Franklin.

Court documents indicate Curtis Stephen Mattocks allegedly sent numerous text messages and made multiple phone calls to a known Leeper man about owing him money.

According to a criminal complaint, PSP Franklin Trooper Orrvick interviewed the known victim on July 26. The victim said “work-related items had turned up missing, and he believed that (Mattocks) was in possession of the items due to a text message he received from him.”

The complaint states that “Mattocks, a former employee, claimed that (the known victim) owed him $300.00. (The victim) told Mattocks that he did not owe him any money and that he was not going to pay him.”

“On June 5, (Mattocks) started sending (the victim) texts demanding his money. On June 20, (Mattock’s) texts became nasty and threatening physical harm….(Mattocks) said that (the victim) owed him $300.00, and (he) was going to take his stuff and hold it as collateral,” the complaint continues.

On June 21, Mattocks allegedly sent the victim a text stating that “if his money wasn’t in his mailbox by tomorrow morning, he would take $300.00 worth of stuff out of the victim.” The texts continued, and Mattocks sent a text stating that “This was the last time he was going to ask nicely..” and that “he was out of time and stuff was gonna happen,” according to the complaint.

On July 14, the victim sent a text message to Mattocks advising him to not contact him by any means. Later that day and on July 15, (Mattocks) called the victim on the phone and sent numerous texts throughout July 15, the complaint states.

On July 28, Trooper Orrvick interviewed Mattocks by phone. Mattocks allegedly stated that the victim owed him $300.00 and that “he made a mistake and that he did send (the victim) a text telling him he had the missing items when actually he did not in an effort to get the victim to pay him his money.” He acknowledged that “he sent text messages to (the victim) after being advised not to contact him,” the complaint continues.

Court documents indicate Trooper Orrvick filed criminal charges against Mattocks in District Judge Matthew T. Kirtland’s office on the following charges:

  • Harassment — Comm. Lewd, Threatening, Etc. Language, Misdemeanor 3
  • Harassment — Comm. Repeatedly in Another Manner, Misdemeanor 3
  • Harassment — Subject Other to Physical Contact

Mattocks is awaiting a preliminary hearing scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on September 14, in Venango County Central Court with Judge Kirkland presiding.
