Knox Man Seriously Injured in Four-Vehicle, Chain Reaction Crash on I-80

CLEARFIELD CO., Pa. (EYT) — A Knox man suffered potentially serious injuries Monday after being involved in a four-vehicle, chain reaction crash on Interstate 80 in Union Township, Clearfield Co.

According to DuBois-based State Police, around 8:01 p.m., Kevin Gensler, 50, of Knox, was driving a 2012 Ford east on I-80 when he approached stopped traffic for another accident. Gensler became distracted and failed to see the traffic until he had no time to brake.

Gensler’s Ford then struck a 2009 H3 driven by Michelle Hyde, 35, of Conneautville.  Hyde’s vehicle was pushed into a 2011 Ford 150 driven by Richard Stitt, 44, of Butler.

Gensler’s vehicle continued to travel east after the collision for about two-tenths of a mile before running out of momentum and coasting backward, striking a vehicle driven by Barbara Cummins, 60, of Las Cruces, N.M.

Gensler was taken to Penn Highlands DuBois by DuBois EMS Medic 42.

Hyde is believed to have suffered a minor injury.

Stitt and Cummins were not injured.

All involved were using seat belts.

Sandy Township Fire Department, PennDot, and Mottsman’s Towing also assisted at the scene.
