Corsica Man Accused of Slamming Woman to Floor, Kicking Her, Punching Her in Mouth with Closed Fist

CORSICA, Pa. (EYT) — Assault and related charges were filed against a Corsica man stemming from an alleged domestic incident that occurred on August 11.

Court documents indicate Punxsutawney-based State Police filed criminal charges against Paul William Hulwick, 41, of Corsica.

According to a criminal complaint, around 10:45 p.m. on August 11, Trooper Johnson, of PSP Punxsutawney, was called to a residence on Water Street in Corsica Borough for a report of a domestic assault.

The complaint states that when Trooper Johnson arrived at the scene, he found the victim at her neighbor’s house. She had bruising under her right eye and a loose front tooth with blood on the gum.

The victim reported that “she and (Paul Hulwick) got into a verbal altercation over the kids going to bed. She stated that (Hulwick) pulled an 11-year-old male into the living room by the arm. She went over and attempted to free (the child) and (Hulwick) slammed her to the floor and kicked her several times. She then got up and (Hulwick) punched her in the mouth with a closed fist,” according to the complaint.

The complaint states that Hulwick refused to give a statement.

Based on his investigation, Trooper Johnson filed a criminal complaint against Hulwick in Magisterial District Judge Gregory M. Bazylak’s office.

He was arraigned at 9:05 a.m. on August 12 on the following charges:

  • Simple Assault, Misdemeanor 2
  • Harassment — Subject Other to Physical Contact, Summary

Unable to post $30,000.00 monetary bail, Hulwick was lodged in the Jefferson County Jail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on August 16 with Judge Bazylak presiding.

Hulwick was previously charged with a March 25, 2016 assault incident that occurred at a Drive-In Theatre.

According to court documents, Hulwick entered a guilty plea in the Jefferson County Court of Common Pleas for assault and was sentenced to a maximum of two-years probation on May 4, 2016.

Other conditions of his sentence are as follows:

– The defendant shall attend and successfully complete the Anger Management Program provided by a Licensed Psychologist.
– The defendant shall refrain from the use of alcoholic beverages and from entering any establishments whose primary business is the sale of alcohol.
