Murder-Suicide: Former Clarion County Man Kills Wife in Front of 5-year-old Daughter, Turns Gun on Himself

FORT WORTH, TX. (EYT) – Two former Clarion County residents died in an apparent murder-suicide Sunday afternoon at their Fort Worth, Texas home.

Authorities say Martha “Kate” Wiant, 38, was found on a sidewalk outside the Castleview Drive home with life-threatening gunshot wounds to her neck and upper shoulder. She was transported to a Forth Worth area hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

Her husband, Jeremy J. Wiant, 38, was found dead inside the front door where he reportedly shot himself, according to officials. Investigators reportedly found a weapon near Mr. Wiant.

Officials say Kate Wiant exited the home and called 911, but was unable to speak due to the severity of her injuries. She reportedly handed the phone to her 5-year-old daughter who told the dispatcher “my dad shot my mom.”

Authorities are calling the incident a domestic dispute that escalated into a murder-suicide; however, specific details on the events leading up to the shooting have not been released.

Jeremy Wiant was a native of the Shippenville area and Clarion Area High School graduate. Kate Wiant — a native of Opelousas, Louisiana — graduated from Clarion University in 2006.
