Pennsylvania Stone Skipping Championship and Rock in River Fest Set for Saturday in Franklin

FRANKLIN, Pa. — The 2016 Pennsylvania Stone Skipping Championship and Rock in the River Fest will be celebrated on Saturday, August 20, at the Riverfront Park in Franklin, Pa.

River Fest Festivities and registration for the Pennsylvania Stone Skipping Competition begin at 11:00 a.m. at Riverfront Park. Visitors will enjoy delicious barbecue and picnic foods. For kids, there are crafts, games, a rock painting competition, and a petting zoo. O.A.R.S. will be offering kayak demos.

The Pennsylvania Stone Skipping Competition begins at 1:00 p.m. for youth and amateurs. Professionals compete at 3:00 p.m. Those who have not previously qualified as a Pro must first participate in the Amateur Category, and if they score 25 skips or more, they may then register in the Professional Division. Guinness Record Holder (88 skips) and 2015 Pennsylvania Champion, Kurt “Mountain Man” Steiner will be among the competitors along with former Guinness Record Holder Russ “Rock Bottom” Byars.
