Police: Car Crashes into Guard Rails in Richland Township; Driver Provides False Statement to Authorities

RICHLAND TWP., Pa. (EYT) — Clarion-based State Police say a one-car accident occurred around 11:55 a.m. on August 17, on Interstate 80 West. east of Township Road 310, in Richland Township, Clarion County.

According to police, Giles P. Hennessy, of Ansonia, CT, was involved in the collision.

Police say this crash occurred as a 2010 Buick Lucerne — driven by Hennessy — was traveling west on Interstate 80 and struck the north side guard rails with the left side of the car.

Hennessy continued west on I-80 for approximately 2 1/2 miles exiting at Exit 42. He then reported to 911 that a vehicle sideswiped his vehicle and fled the scene as he exited the Exit 42 westbound off-ramp, according to police.

It was discovered during the crash investigation that Hennessy “provided a false statement to 911 and the State Police concerning the hit and run,” police say.

Hennessy was not injured.

The vehicle sustained moderate damage to the left side.

Hennessy was charged with a traffic violation.
