CLARION, Pa. — Rep. Donna Oberlander (R-Clarion/Armstrong/Forest) reminded residents yesterday that one of the best ways to protect identities from being stolen is to securely dispose of documents containing personal and sensitive information.

To help with proper disposal, she will host a free shredder event on Saturday, September 10, at her Clarion district office.

“Last year’s free shredding event was a great success, with residents from all over the 63rd District eager to have their unwanted documents securely shredded to prevent their identities from being stolen,” Oberlander said. “This event is back by popular demand, and I’m happy to make available an industrial shredder for residents to properly dispose of all kinds of documents – those containing bank account numbers, credit cards statements and offers, and even medical information.”

From 10:00 a.m. until noon, residents can drop off up to four boxes per person of unwanted documents with personal information for free. The materials to be shredded should not include newspapers, magazines or books. Paper clips and staples need not be removed before shredding.

Additionally, this event is for residents only (no businesses please), and X-ray type materials cannot be accepted for shredding.

Oberlander’s Clarion district office is located at 160 South Second Avenue, Clarion, Pa.

For more information, call her district office at 814-226-9000.

The service is being provided by Shred X of Erie.
