Two Killed in Collision on Route 62, HIckory Township

HICKORY TWP., Pa. (EYT) — A fatal crash occurred around 11:37 a.m. on September 1 on State Route 62, in Hickory Township, Forest County.

According to police, this crash occurred on Route 62 in front of a residence in Harmony Township, as a 2008 Chevrolet Impala LT was entering the roadway from a parked position along the southbound shoulder on Route 62, where the occupants were retrieving their mail.

A 2008 Ford F-350 Supercab — driven by 45-year-old Michael J. Okruch, of Russell — was traveling northbound on Route 62, and the Chevrolet pulled directly into the path of the Ford pickup as the driver — 79-year-old Larry R. Carnahan, of Tidioute — was attempting to enter his driveway, police say.

The Ford pickup struck the passenger’s side of the Chevrolet, pushing the vehicle off the east side of the roadway. The Chevrolet hit a culvert and overturned. It came to a final rest in the upright position in a private lawn, according to police.

The passenger of the Chevrolet — 80-year-old Dorothy M. Carnahan, of Tidioute — was deceased at the scene due to injuries suffered in the crash, according to police.

Larry Carnahan was transported from the scene by ambulance, but passed away before reaching the hospital due to injuries suffered in the crash, police say.

Okruch was using a seat belt and was not injured.

Neither occupant of the Chevrolet was using a seat belt at the time of the crash, according to police.
