Joan M. Marsteller

Thumbnail-25Joan M. Marsteller, of Sandycreek Township, Franklin, passed away peacefully surrounded by family to be reunited with her best friend, love of her life and husband of 65 years, Harold L. Marsteller.

She was called to the Lord at 8:40 a.m., Thursday, September 8, at her home on Congress Hill Road, Franklin. She was 85.

Born November 28, 1930, in Polk, Joan was the daughter of Thomas and Gladys (Martin) Fry. Joan was a 1948 graduate of Franklin High School. She worked at Franklin Area School District for 26 years until her retirement in 1997 as cafeteria manager.

In her early years, Joan was an avid golfer and enjoyed traveling. She enjoyed working around her property and feeding the geese. She regularly attended lunch with her friends former cafeteria co-workers: Sally, Sandy, Peg and Karen. She was a member of the Congress Hill Church of God for many years.

Joan is survived by her two sons, Thomas Marsteller and wife, Beverly, of Franklin, and Todd Marsteller and wife, Jennifer, of Polk; five grandchildren: Daniel Marsteller and wife, Felicia, Joseph Marsteller, James Marsteller and girlfriend, Nikki Kellar, Nathaniel and Amber Marsteller; and 10 great-grandchildren: Hunter and Luke Marsteller, Cole Gammello, Tyler and Elizabeth Keller, Olivia Beres, Samantha Tillia, Aiden, Emily and Dakota. Also surviving is the wife of late grandchild, Thomas J. Marsteller, Jr., Theresa Marsteller.

She is also survived by two step-grandchildren, Allison and Jen; and three step-great-grandchildren, Hailey, McKenna and Robert. In addition, Joan is survived by a sister-in-law, Esther Stewart, a nephew, Jeff Green, and special friend, Tweet O’Polka.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Gladys; and her in-laws, Robert E. and Grace G. Marsteller. Also preceding her in death were brothers Gene, Dick and Dan Fry; and sisters, Peg Fry and Nancy Green; and two grandchildren, Thomas J. Marsteller, Jr., and Joshua J. Marsteller.

Arrangements are being entrusted to Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin.

A memorial celebration of Mrs. Marsteller’s life will be held at 1:oo p.m., Sunday, September 18 at the Congress Hill Church of God, 406 Congress Hill Road in Franklin, with Rev. Johnny Pennington, pastor of the church, officiating.
A luncheon will follow immediately after the service.

The family suggests that memorial donations by made to the Disabled American Veterans – Dept. of PA, PO Box 8833, Camp Hill 17001-8833.
