Ruth (Jones) (Chrostowski) Hoffman, age 95, of Brookville, PA, passed away in the early morning hours of Friday, September 9, 2016, as a patient of the Penn Highlands Brookville Hospital, in Brookville, PA.
Ruth was born on December 16, 1920, to the late Lee W. and Alice (Hays) Jones, in Knox Dale, PA.
She graduated from Brookville High School with the class of 1939. After graduation, she made her way to Erie, PA, and while there she married Henry Chrostowski. She resided in Erie for over 40 years. Ruth made a career working for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company; as a highlight, she became the company’s top sales person. After Henry’s passing in 1989, she moved to DuBois, PA, to be closer to her family.
In 1992 she married Melvin Hoffman, and they resided together in Coolspring, PA. Melvin preceded in her passing in April of 2013. Ruth was an active Christian woman with a talent of playing the piano; at times she supported her church family in Knox Dale by sitting as the pianist for their meetings.
Most recently she resided at the Jefferson Court in Brookville, PA. For over three years she built friendships and loved the companionships of the other residents and caregivers; and they adored her. Ruth had a love for animals, most especially for Pekingese dogs. She will truly be missed.
She is survived by her sister, Edith (John) Snyder, of Brookville, PA; and numerous members of her extended and step-families. In addition to her parents and husbands, she is preceded in death by one brother; John T. Jones.
At the request and direction of Ruth, there will be no public services and a private interment will take place at the Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery in Erie, PA. Care for her services has been entrusted to the McKinney — d’Argy Funeral Home, ltd, 345 Main St., Brookville, PA, 15825.
