330555847Michael “Mike” Todd Brunson of Capon Bridge, West Virginia, died Sunday, September 11, 2016 as a result of an automobile accident.

Mike was born in 1968 in Grove City, Pennsylvania, the son of Carol D. Rockwell and the late James Brunson.

He graduated from Grove City High School, class of 1986 and attended Slippery Rock State University. Mike was a Master Patrol Officer with the City of Winchester and served the community for over 21 years. Ever the professional public servant, many younger officers looked up to and learned from him. Although he had no desire to be in the spotlight or to receive recognition, he received the Meritorious Action Award of Valor for entering a burning home in search of a two-year-old child.
Mike was happiest when he was in nature, particularly walking hand-and-hand with his wife, four-wheeling with his granddaughter or hiking with his daughter. Throughout his life he also enjoyed “friendly” athletic competitions and poker games with his friends. Those who had the honor and privilege of knowing Mike describe him as a one of kind individual with a very unique personality. He made a lasting impression on his friends and family and will never be forgotten.

Surviving with his mother, Carol D. Rockwell of Polk, PA are his wife, Kimberly Brunson; his daughter Elizabeth Thurman, her husband Jesse, the parents of Mike’s two precious grandchildren Ryleigh Grace and Oliver James Thurman of Winchester, Virginia; his daughter Katherine Brunson of Winchester, Virginia; a step-daughter, Eve Neal of Capon Bridge, West Virginia; step-son, Stephen Neal-Crowe of Capon Bridge, West Virginia; and the mother of his children, Annette Brancato of Winchester, Virginia.

Mike is also survived by a brother James Brunson, his wife Michele and their children Sarah and Adam of Grove City, PA; a sister Deborah Wostbrock, her husband David and their two children Abigail and Matthew of Midland Park, New Jersey; a sister Christina Meyerl, her husband Richard and their two children Megan and Braden of Grove City, PA.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday lead by Police Chaplin Mark Ransom at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, with a reception to follow in the Omps Funeral Home Reception Center. A private interment will be at Crestview Memorial on Saturday in Grove City, PA, where he will be laid to rest beside his father.
