Man Accused of Dealing Heroin in Irwin Township

IRWIN TWP., Pa. (EYT) — A Grove City man is facing drug and related charges following an incident that occurred in Irwin Township, Venango County.

According to online court documents, the Polk Borough Police Department filed criminal charges against 29-year-old Drew Ryan Ries, of Grove City.

According to a criminal complaint, around 5:40 p.m. on September 13, Ries allegedly used Facebook messenger to communicate with a Confidential Informant (C.I.) indicating that he would sell him/her a brick of heroin for $180.00 that day at a known gas station in Barkeyville. Ries allegedly changed the meeting location to a business on State Route 173 by Interstate 80, and then changed it again to a gas station on Route 208/173 in Grove City.

The complaint states that the C.I. was dropped off at the gas station in Grove City. Police saw Ries standing in front of the gas station. Then, the C.I. contacted police and stated that Ries “wanted him to go for a walk with him.”

The C.I. contacted police again stating “(Ries) took off with the $180.00 without giving (him/her) the heroin” and ran into a Hill Street residence. The C.I. was unable to get into house or make any further contact, the complaint continues.

Based on the investigation, a criminal complaint was filed against Ries in District Judge Patrick E. Lowrey’s office.

He was arraigned at 2:44 p.m. on September 19, on the following charges:

  • Manufacture, Delivery, or Possession With Intent to Manufacture or Deliver, Felony (two counts)
  • Criminal Use of Communication Facility, Felony 3
  • Theft By Deception — False Impression, Misdemeanor 2

Unable to post $75,000.00 monetary bail, he was lodged in the Venango County Jail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on September 28 in Venango County Central Court in front of Judge Lowrey.
