KNOX, Pa. (EYT) – Knox Borough Mayor Frank Agnello issued the following report for September.

KNOX POST OFFICE DEDICATION CEREMONY — It’s happening on Monday, October 24, at 6:00 p.m. up on East Railroad Street. A dedication ceremony will be held where they will officially rename the Knox Post Office to the “Specialist Ross A. McGinnis Memorial Post Office” in honor of our hometown hero and Medal of Honor Recipient Ross A. McGinnis. This is going to be a gala affair open to the public. East Railroad Street will be closed down part of the day between Dennison Avenue and Main Street. The event will be outside around the post office area if the weather permits, and if it’s raining it will be moved to the social room in the Knox Fire Hall. Tiki Kahle has been working hard getting this all together and dealing with the logistics of the ceremony. Mark your calendars for October 24.

NORTH MAIN STREET REBUILD — Not sure when they are starting this project. Last month I reported they were starting this pronto, but I was wrong. I’m told they had to order supplies that are specific to the project, and it delayed the startup. The original intent from council was to have them begin the work as soon as possible after the Horsethief event, and get it done before the snow flies…and maybe they still can? We’ll see.

BUMPY BUMPY BUMP — A temporary fix is set for the area of East State Street, across the old (removed) railroad tracks heading east in front of Rhea Lumber. Street committee chairman Carl Salser and Knox Borough secretary Sharon Heeter put in a call to PennDOT (this road is actually Route 208) and they told Sharon that PennDOT is going to do a temporary fix on the road recession there that will suffice through the winter. Come spring they told Sharon that this road will be repaved out over the hill to the light. That was great news. Ted Switzer and the gang at Larry’s Barber Shop will welcome hearing this. They have been persistent in asking, “Just how long do we have to go bumpy bumpy bump when we drive across this?” A fix is on the way gang!

KNOX SEWAGE PLANT — Our new sewage treatment plant is up and online. This is a major milestone completing the entire new sewage infrastructure project now in place in Knox Borough. It seems like there should be some kind of shindig down there to celebrate this all, and maybe there will be. For years the entire Knox Borough Council has worked hard on this effort, and they would tell you that nobody worked harder on this than Knox Borough Council president Jack Bish, Jr. I extend thanks to everyone involved. This new sewage infrastructure really gives Knox stability for the long term, and it’s something that many towns wished they had in place. It will keep our sewage rates stable for the next couple of generations to come. It was a fantastic effort. We also say thanks to our State Representative Donna Oberlander who was instrumental in helping Jack and the Knox Borough Council along the way. Again, it seems like we should have some pomp and circumstance down there, have a big shindig, but there’s probably a better place to toss a party than at the sewage plant?

That’s all for this month. Dig these great fall temperatures, and let’s all have a fantastic October!

Knox Mayor
