March 23, 2016 Incident

According to a criminal complaint, around 8:20 a.m., on Wednesday, March 23, Clarion Borough Police responded to a call from a concerned citizen about an assault that had happened the night before.

Police spoke with the victim, who said he was attacked around 9:30 p.m. in front of the Clarion Fire Hall. He was knocked to the ground and held down for several minutes. The victim was then let up, the assailants ran away and he continued walking home. He was then attacked again, this time on Merle Road in the area the American Legion fenced-in parking lot.

The man said he was struck from behind and held down and placed in a choke hold. He saw three people that he described as two white males and one black male. The person who struck him the second time was white. He heard several males yelling at him to give them his money.

The victim removed two $10 bills from his pocket and gave it to a young, black male – who was wearing jeans that were ‘falling off’ him. After the young, black male took his money, a car was coming down the alley, and all the suspects took off running.

Detective Bill Peck said the victim had a bruise on the right side of his face and the arm of his eyeglasses was broken.

Cases against the other individuals involved continue to work their way through the court system.
