Margaret L. “Peg” Shouey

Margaret L. “Peg” Shouey, 90, a resident of 706 12th Street, Franklin died peacefully at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 5, 2016, in her home; following a period of declining health.

She was born March 26, 1926 in Franklin, a beloved daughter of the late: Seymour Ray Shouey and Agnes Marie Robison Shouey.

Peg was a 1942 graduate of Sacred Heart School (presently, St. Patrick School) in Franklin and graduated with the 1943 Class of Franklin High School. Peg was a 1947 graduate of the Spencer Hospital School of Nursing in Meadville and had also attended Clarion State College (presently, Clarion University of Pennsylvania).

As a registered nurse, Peg had worked at the former Franklin Hospital, with the McCandless family at the Franklin Medical Group as well as at the former Grandview Convalescent Home in Oil City. She had also worked as a nurse at Polk Center for more than 29 years, retiring from there in 1986.

Peg attended St. Patrick Church in Franklin, where she had served as a lector, Eucharistic Minister and was the longtime coordinator of the Hands of Mercy community outreach program. She was a longtime member of the Altar Rosary Society of the parish, where she had served as its past-president. Peg was also very active for a number of years with Mercy Corps and was a professed laywoman of The Institute of Mary Immaculate.

Peg was an avid reader all her life. She enjoyed travelling domestically, as well as abroad. Amongst her most fond memories, were the many pilgrimages to Rome that she had made throughout the years, the pinnacle of which were her many private audiences with then Pope John Paul II (Canonized: Saint John Paul the Great on April 27, 2014).

Peg was preceded in death by her parents and by her brother, Raymond E. “Bill” Shouey, Sr.

At her request, there was no public visitation.

A private Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated and private interment followed in Cochranton Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Timothy E. Hartle Funeral Home, 1328 Elk Street, Franklin.
