Clarion Junior High Girls’ Cross Country Team Enjoys Unbeaten Regular Season

CLARION, Pa. — The Clarion Junior High Girls’ Cross Country team finished an undefeated regular season, a first for the junior high girls’ squad.

The team, which is coached by Keith Murtha and assisted by Bill Grove and Tammy Lerch, was made up of 13 seventh graders. The Lady Cats beat Karns City, Moniteau, Cranberry, Clarion-Limestone, A-C Valley, Keystone and North Clarion during the year.

Clarion used its depth to come away without a loss.

Team captain Joyce Kim led the team through the season, and Evelyn Lerch was the top runner going unbeaten in all the races she ran during the season.

In addition to the dual meets, the Lady Cats also competed at the Big Red Invitational at West Middlesex and the Ridgway Invitational.

Clarion will run in the KSAC Championships Thursday at Cranberry High School.

NOTES: Junior high cross country runs a 1.8-mile course with the top five finishers counting in the scoring with first place earning one point, second place two and etc. The team with the lowest scoring wins.
