Teen Faces DUI, Marijuana Possession Charges Following Traffic Stop on Greenville Avenue

CLARION, Pa. (EYT) — An 18-year-old man has been accused of drug possession and related charges stemming from a traffic stop on Greenville Pike, in Clarion Township.

According to court documents, Clarion-based State Police filed criminal charges against 18-year-old Michael Richard Wesley Duray, of Pittsburgh.

According to a criminal complaint, around 11:17 p.m. on October 14, Clarion-based State Police officers were on patrol traveling north on Greenville Pike. Police observed a red Mitsubishi Galant traveling at 60 mph in a properly posted 45 mph zone. While police were behind the vehicle, it crossed the center line twice. A traffic stop was then conducted.

The complaint states that when police approached the vehicle, a very strong odor of marijuana was detected. The driver of the vehicle — Michael Richard Wesley — was observed to have glassy, bloodshot eyes. Wesley Duray told police that he was coming from Pittsburgh. When asked if he had been smoking marijuana and if there were any drugs in the car, he stated “that he had smoked earlier in the day.”

The vehicle was searched and “a large quantity of green leafy substance was discovered. It was later weighed and NIK tested at the station. (It) tested positive for marijuana, and the total weight was 87 grams,” the complaint continues.

Wesley Duray agreed to Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, the complaint states.

Due to Wesley Duray showing signs of intoxication and admitted to marijuana usage, he was placed under arrest for DUI and transported to Clarion Hospital for blood to be drawn, according to the complaint.

Based on the investigation, a criminal complaint was filed against Wesley Duray in District Judge Duane L. Quinn’s office.

He was arraigned at 1:45 a.m. on October 15, on the following charges:

  • Manufacture, Delivery, or Possession With Intent to Manufacture or Deliver, Felony
  • Intentional Possession Controlled Substance By Person Not Registered, Misdemeanor
  • DUI: Controlled Substance — Schedule 1, Misdemeanor
  • Fail to Carry Registration, Summary
  • Operate Vehicle Without Required Financial Responsibility, Summary
  • Fail to Keep Right, Summary
  • Disregard Traffic Lane (Single), Summary
  • Exceed Max Speed Limit Established by 15 mph, Summary
  • Careless Driving, Summary

Unable to post $5,000.00 (10%) monetary bail, Wesley Duray was lodged in the Clarion County Jail.

He was released on October 17 after a private surety from Pittsburgh posted $500.00 cash bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on November 22 in front of Judge Quinn.
