SHIPPENVILLE, Pa. (EYT) — United Way of Clarion County will hold its 2016 open house on Saturday, October 22, at Deer Creek Winery in Shippenville, Pa.

The open house will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Attendees can meet the Luton family, the 2016-17 ambassadors of United Way of Clarion County. Free wine tastings, live music by Gary Bickerstaff and United Way information will also be available.

United Way of Clarion County is a nonprofit organization that has been in existence since 1971. The organization holds an interest in programs that benefit people within the county and rely on the giving of others to meet its annual goal.

The mission of United Way is to advance the common good by supporting health, education, and income stability throughout Clarion County.

“(Open house attendees) can get an idea for all of the services we offer and the different agencies and organization we partner with,” said Melissa Fulton, executive director of United Way of Clarion County. “There is a wealth of community opportunities.”

As this year’s ambassadors, the Luton family will be present at the organization’s events and will help spread the word about United Way services and programs.

The family will also work on bringing beneficial programs into the county. Their current endeavor is a Dolly Parton literacy initiative that would mail an age-appropriate book to every child in the county under age 5.

“The Lutons are the backbone that is driving our work to get the Dolly Parton Imagination Library into Clarion County,” Fulton explains.

Other United Way programs include Neighbor Aid Community Fund, Community Cancer Care Fund and Fitzgerald Ramp Fund, which provides handicap ramps for individuals.
