WEST SUNBURY, Pa. (D9Sports) — Behind a huge game from Cullen Williams, Karns City took care of rival Moniteau for the sixth straight time with a 44-10 road win over the Warriors.

Williams rushed for 117 yards on just nine carries and scored three touchdowns while also hauling in two catches for 13 yards.

“Well, that’s what we’ve expected out of him,” said Karns City head coach Ed Conto. “He was hurt early in the year and made the transition from quarterback to tailback this year. He’s learning, getting better each day, which is what we need.”

The win didn’t come without consequences for the Gremlins, however, as leading rusher Chandler Turner when down with an injury on a first-quarter carry.

“We are uncertain (what it is),” Conto said. “Maybe a strained Achilles. We’re not sure how bad it is. That’s something we’ll have to see. It’s definitely something we want to get checked out to see.”

Great field position led to a 13-0 lead at the end of the first quarter for Karns City.

The Gremlins first drive started at the Moniteau 31-yard line and finished with Kaiden Powers going untouched into the end zone on a fourth-and-1 sweep play from the 6-yard line.

Karns City (8-1, 5-0 KSAC Large) then took advantage of a Moniteau muffled punt that gave them the ball at the Warriors 33-yard line scoring on the second play after the punt when Sebastian Troutman, who was filling in for the injured Turner, went 20 yards for the score.

Another short field helped the Gremlins go up 20-0 at halftime.

Taking over at the Moniteau 38-yard line, Williams scored his first touchdown of the game from three yards out 36 seconds into the second quarter.

As the field conditions turned to complete mud in the second half, Karns City had perfect mudders scoring three consecutive touchdonws in the third quarter to put the game away.

After punting on their first possession, Karns City recovered a Warrior fumble at the Moniteau 38-yard line.

Two plays later Williams broke free for a 38-yard touchdown extending their lead to 26-0.

Jacob King’s 5-yard touchdown pass to Jimmy Thompson gave the Gremlins a 32-0 lead at the 5:26 mark of the third quarter with a Williams 39-yard run being the big play of the drive down to the 6-yard line.

Williams then scored his final touchdown of the night from 11 yards out, as Karns City put in the Mercy Rule up 38-0 after three.

One play into what would turn out to be their only snap of the fourth quarter Eric Dodd raced 60 yards for a touchdown making the score 44-0. Dodd rushed for 87 on eight carries.

Moniteau (3-5, 2-3) finally got on the scoreboard on their ensuing snap when Dacota Skiver went 63 yards for a touchdown against the Karns City reserves. Thanks to the long run, Skiver lead the Warrior ground game with 63 yards on just two carries.

Recovering an onside kick, Moniteau moved the ball 26 yards and Steven Fawcett connected on a 38-yard field goal. Moniteau would again recover the onside kick but couldn’t score as the game ended.

Karns City closes out the regular season next week with a game at Clearfield, which is also 8-1.

“I watched some film on them this week, they’re very, very talented,” said Conto of Clearfield. “They have a great receiver, running back, their quarterback does a nice job and their lines is big. They’ve got a coach and a family of coaches that have probably been there 30 years, so they’re well-coached and don’t make mistakes. Hopefully, it’ll be a heck of a ball game, we’ll see.”

Moniteau ends its regular season at Redbank Valley. With Brookville’s loss to St. Marys, the Warriors have qualified for the District 9 2A playoffs but it isn’t known if they will expect the bid.
