TITUSVILLE, Pa. – Titusville Police Department say a Franklin man crashed a single-engine plane after it lost power while attempting to land at Titusville Airport around 5:15 p.m. yesterday.

William Fritz, 68, of Franklin, piloted the plane, which was carrying five others at the time of the crash. All six escaped injury, according to The Meadville Tribune.

In an interview with Sgt. Ruel Root of Titusville Police Department, the Tribune reported that the plane was flying in from Michigan, lost power and touched down before making contact with the runway. Recent rains caused the plane to skid and sink into the ground.

The report continued, stating that the plane had cleared Titusville Airport’s security fence near the north end of the runway. It stopped short after getting stuck in the ground about 200 feet before the runway.

Titusville Fire Department and Emergycare Ambulance from Titusville assisted at the scene, according to the report.

Root told the Tribune that Federal Aviation Administration investigators were expected at the scene of the accident late this morning.
