The Wild & Scenic Allegheny River

The PA Great Outdoors region is a big, beautiful part of Pennsylvania and home to the nationally designated Wild & Scenic Allegheny River. More than 300 miles long, the Allegheny forms a northern and western border for the half-million acre Allegheny National Forest.

This mighty river meanders through narrow valleys and densely forested mountain slopes teeming with wildlife. Paddlers and anglers flock to Forest County for fun on the water. Tionesta is home to the Sherman Memorial Lighthouse, Pennsylvania’s only in-land working lighthouse.

Further downstream is a charming resort town of Foxburg with a lively art scene, restaurants, winery, hotel, and golf course. Pool #9 at East Brady is the northern most deep water pool on the water and popular with powerboaters and home to many catfish tournaments each year. Nearby, Brady’s Bend Overlooks offers stunning views of the river below. Come experience the Allegheny River!
