Harriet R. Nelson

OI2135885812_hnelsonobitpic001Harriet R. Nelson was reunited with her husband and her Savior on Oct. 29, 2016, at 12:55 P.M.

She had been in declining health and was a resident at Oil City Healthcare and Rehabilitation.

She was born July 22, 1924, on the family homestead in Diamond, PA., the fourth of five children of the late Edna Nies and O. Glen Noel.

As a teen, she was active in sports, especially basketball. Like many her age, she would walk miles to attend school and graduated from Sunville School (after three years) and then from Titusville High School. After graduation, she was employed at Grant’s in Titusville.

Harriett was a fun person with a great sense of humor and LOVED to read, golf with her husband and do crossword puzzles. In her younger days, she also liked to bowl duckpins, at which she was very good. As her health began to decline, one of her greatest delights was to go for lunch or to the tasty freeze, or just go for a ride.

She was married Nov. 22, 1950, to the love of her life, George E. Nelson in St. Stephen’s Church in Oil City by the late Rev. Robert Griffen. They were the parents of four children, and after they were older, she returned to the workforce, being employed at Grady’s Bakery and Sammons Communications.

After retirement, she and George could be found on the golf course daily, and she continued to golf until she was ninety years old, walking the course.

She also enjoyed her trips to the beaches of South Carolina, especially when they were for time with her family.

Her greatest times were had when she was with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she dearly loved.

Those grandchildren are Melanie, Sarah, David, Jason, Eric, Kyle, Dana and Neal.

She has eleven great-grandchildren and one due in December.

She will be deeply missed by her children: Patricia Thorpe (Edward) of Dempseytown, Georgeanne Foose(James) of Harrisburg, Karl (Leah) Nelson of Oil City and Harold (Jan) Kristensen of Elizabethtown.

She lost a daughter in infancy.

She is also survived by a sister, Jean Coryea of Chapmanville, and many nieces and nephews and friends.

Harriett was preceded in death by a sister Anna Mae Williams, and by two brothers Robert Noel and John F. Noel Sr.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and from 7-9 P.M. Wednesday, Nov. 2, in the Reinsel Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 noon on Thursday in St. Stephen’s Church with Fr. Matthew Ruyechan, Presiding.

Interment will be in Troy Center Cemetery.

Memorials may be made in her name to the Oil City Library or toSt. Stephen’s Church.

The Family would like to thank her caregivers at the Healthcare Center and Aseracrae Hospice for their care and concern for her. It will always be remembered.
