Knox Man Leaves Wallet at Scene of Burglary; Arrested After Reporting It Stolen

SALEM TWP., Pa. (EYT) — A Knox man whose wallet was allegedly found at a crime scene is facing burglary and related charges.

According to court documents, Clarion-based State Police filed criminal charges against 32-year-old Cory Ren Sudden, of Knox.

PSP Clarion investigated a report of a burglary that occurred at a Salem Township residence on September 25, 2016. “A wallet was found at the scene containing the identification of Cory Ren Sudden,” according to a criminal complaint.

The complaint states that Sudden contacted PSP Clarion on September 25, reporting that his wallet had been stolen.

The complaint indicates that on October 13, Sudden arrived at PSP Clarion to participate in a non-custodial interview.

According to the complaint, “Sudden admitted to knowingly arriving at the (Salem Township) residence…and being present during the burglary and theft along with a [known individual(s)]. He also admitted to being present at the time the items were taken from the (Salem Township) residence and transported the stolen items from the scene in the trunk of the car they had arrived in.”

Sudden also admitted to viewing [known individual(s)] take the stolen items into the woods once they had arrived at the (known location).”

Sudden also allegedly admitted to reporting his wallet being stolen to authorities when he knew the wallet had not been stolen, the complaint continues.

Based on the investigation, a criminal complaint was filed against Sudden in District Judge Amy Long Turk’s office.

He was arraigned at 10:39 a.m. on November 2, on the following charges:

  • Burglary — Not Adapted for Overnight Accommodation, No Person Present, Felony 2
  • Criminal Trespass — Break Into Structure, Felony 2
  • Conspiracy — Burglary — Not Adapted for Overnight Accommodation, No Person Present, Felony 2
  • Theft By Unlawful Taking — Movable Prop, Misdemeanor 1
  • Conspiracy — Theft By Unlawful Taking — Movable Property, Misdemeanor 1
  • False Reports — Reported Offense Did Not Occur, Misdemeanor 3
  • Criminal Mischief — Damage Property, Summary
  • Conspiracy — Criminal Mischief — Damage Property, Summary

Sudden is free on $10,000.00 unsecured bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on December 6 in front of Judge Turk.
