New Bethlehem Area Residents Warned of West Penn Power Scam

NEW BETHLEHEM, Pa. (EYT) — Authorities are warning New Bethlehem area residents of a new scam angled to get victims to send money via wire transfer.

New Bethlehem police chief Scott Ryan reported three incidents of a scam that involves a caller claiming to be from West Penn Power. The caller told the victim that his/her electric bill was past due and demanded payment via wire transfer.

Chief Ryan said one incident resulted in the victim being scammed out of $1,000.00.
