New Bethlehem Man Pleads Guilty to Firing Gun Near Bar

CLARION, Pa. (EYT) – A New Bethlehem man who fired a gun in anger earlier this year at a bar pleaded guilty to reckless endangerment in Clarion County Court of Common Pleas.

According to court documents, 38-year-old Wade B. Wilson, of New Bethlehem, made the plea in front of President Judge James Arner on November 2.

According to a previously-published story on exploreClarion.com, police responded to a New Bethlehem area bar on May 12, 2016, after receiving a report of shots fired.

According to the criminal complaint, around 6:00 p.m. on May 12, Borough officers received a “shots fired” call for an incident on the 400 block of Hunter Street behind a local bar. Officers Spencer and Greenlee and Clarion-based State Police responded to the location.

During the investigation, it was learned that Wade Wilson fired the weapon — a sawed-off shotgun — and left in a white Chevy/GMC pickup truck, the complaint indicates.

There were several patrons in the local bar “who feared for their lives being in such close proximity to the shot,” the complaint states.

The gun that was fired was described as a “‘sawed off’ shotgun, and this weapon may be considered a prohibited item,” the complaint continues.

The matter stemmed from an incident between Wilson and a woman who he was previously in a relationship with, police say.

New Bethlehem Borough Chief of Police Scott C. Ryan told exploreClarion.com, “After the suspect saw the woman who he was in a previous relationship with, he fired a round into the air on the 400 Block of Hunter Street and then fled the scene.”

Wilson will be sentenced on December 14. He faces two years in jail,; however, District Attorney Mark Aaron recommended six months probation.

Wilson’s attorney, Erich Spessard, pointed out that his client has sought treatment and is getting counseling for his anger issues.

Arner acknowledged his concern, describing it as a “very, very serious manner.”
