Area Schools Honor Local Veterans

CLARION CO., Pa. (EYT) – High schools in Clarion and Forest counties honored local veterans on Friday with presentations, performances, and community service projects.

– North Clarion County High School held a luncheon for veterans in the library, followed by an assembly for students and community members.

– West Forest High School held a social lunch for veterans.

– Allegheny-Clarion Valley High School put on numerous events, including Veterans Day Spirit Week and a concert band performance on Thursday. The school’s GIVE Club raised money for the Mechling-Shakley Veterans Center, and the club’s members performed a community service project that involved cleaning veterans’ tombstones.

Veterans and community members were invited to listen to Emlenton Police Chief Dan Siegel speak, followed by a Quilt of Valor award presented to William H. Shoup, Jr.

– Clarion Area High School hosted keynote speaker David H. Hartley, the associate dean of the Clarion University College of Business and U.S. Army retiree.

– Clarion-Limestone High School had its band, choir and dance team perform for veterans. Captain Hamid Conteh, assistant professor of military science at Clarion University, spoke to around 150 veterans and community members.
