District 9 Sports Roundup: Coudersport Volleyball Moves into PIAA Semifinals

DUBOIS, Pa. (D9Sports) — Behind 18 kills from Ally Easton and 10 from Kiara Perkins, District 9 champion Coudersport advanced to the PIAA Class 1A volleyball semifinals with a 3-1 (25-13, 25-22, 23-25, 25-13) win over Bishop Guilfoyle Saturday at DuBois High School.

The Lady Falcons will face WPIAL champion Greensburg Central Catholic in the semifinals Tuesday at a site and time to be announced.

Skyler VanWagenen added seven kills and two aces for Coudy which also got strong play from Macy Gleason (28 digs, 4 kills, 3 aces), Joplin Osgood (39 digs) and Adi Page (25 digs).

RIDGWAY DEFENSE LEADS ELKERS TO DISTRICT 9 1A FOOTBALL TITLE GAME

DUBOIS, Pa. — Ridgway limited Curwensville to 112 yards of total offense on its way to a 33-0 win over the Golden Tide in the District 9 Class 1A football semifinals Saturday night at DuBois’ Mansell Stadium.

Johnny Mitchell threw three touchdown passes for the top-seeded Elkers in the win, while Neil MacDonald and Jacob Zimmerman each scored twice.

Mitchell finished 6 of 7 passing for 109 yards while adding 58 yards on the ground, while MacDonald, who caught a TD and ran for a TD, had 84 yards rushing and 45 receiving.

Ridgway’s defense held Curwensville star Nick Stewart to 48 yards rushing, but Stewart did break the 2,000-yard mark on the season (2,032).

Ridgway will face Elk County Catholic in the title game at 7 p.m. Friday at Brockway’s Varischetti Field.
