Andrews, Powell Lead CU Men’s Hoops to First Win

CLARION, Pa. (EYT) — Hitting 13 3-pointers, the Clarion University men’s basketball team cruised to a 92-76 win over visiting Penn State Greater Allegheny Wednesday night at Tippin Gym.

The Golden Eagles (1-2) were 13 of 32 from beyond the arc and played with relentless pressure on defense throughout the game.

BJ Andrews led Clarion with 22 points while hitting 4 of 7 from 3-point range while also grabbing a team-high eight rebounds. Manny Powell added 20 points and dished out nine assists while going 6 of 6 from the free-throw line.

The Lions led in the early going and were up two with eight minutes left in the first half. But back-to-back 3-pointers from Justin Grant and a timely block from Akeem Williams helped the Golden Eagles pull away for a 44-29 halftime lead.

George Prota led PSU Greater Allegheny with 18 points and eight rebounds. Jordon Payne added 16 points and Khari Hicks 15 points.

Clarion returns to action Saturday at East Stroudsburg.
