Financial Report Indicates Clarion Psychiatric Hospital Performs Well

CLARION, Pa. (EYT) — The financial health picture at Clarion Psychiatric Hospital looks pretty good, according to a recent report by the Pennsylvania Health Care Cost Containment Council.

The council released its annual financial analysis of “non-general acute care” hospitals, providing data that includes net income from patients, total operating cost, and both operating margins and total margin.

The operating margin compares income from patient operations to costs, while total margin compares income from all sources — including things like gift shops and cafeterias — to costs.

Seven psychiatric hospitals statewide had total margins above 10 percent with Clarion Psychiatric Center posting the biggest margin at 22.6 percent.

The two biggest total margins statewide were 27.8 percent and 27.5 percent, posted respectively by St. Mary Rehabilitation Hospital in Bucks County and Lancaster Rehabilitation Hospital in the Lancaster County seat.

Its net patient revenue has grown every year since 2012, when it was $16,175.00. It was $16,381.00 in 2013; $18,976.00 in 2014; and $20,850.00 a year ago.

Clarion Psych Center, open for more than a quarter century, had 1,833 visits in fiscal year 2015.

According to information on its website, Clarion Psychiatric Center was named a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures for Hospital-Based Inpatient Psych, according to the Joint Commission.

This coveted award recognizes excellence in performance on accountability measures that are linked to improving the quality of care for the patients we serve.

In Pennsylvania, Clarion is one of just six hospitals recognized for the Hospital-Based Inpatient Psych measure set.

Out of the 3,343 eligible hospitals measured overall nationwide, Clarion is one of the 170 facilities to earn the Hospital-Based Inpatient Psych quality distinction.

Clarion offers an adult inpatient program, child and adolescent inpatient program, and child and adolescent partial program.
