Nancy Cookson Benn

1879458_profile_pic-2Nancy Cookson Benn, of Clarion, passed away on November 20, 2016 at Clarion Healthcare and Rehabilitation where she was a resident. Nancy was 90 years of age.

Born on July 13, 1926 in Clarion, she was the daughter of the late Roy E. and Dora (Terwilliger) Cookson. On September 30, 1954, she married William Benn in the First Presbyterian Church of Clarion. He preceded her in death on July 21, 1995.

Nancy was employed in the accounting department of Owen-Illinois in Clarion for 38 years, retiring in 1983. She also enjoyed playing on the O-I decorating department bowling team for many years.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Clarion where she was a Deacon and formerly active in the Women’s Association, Circle 3 Group, and as a Sunday School teacher. Nancy was a member of Clarion County Historical Society, as well as the Clarion Women’s Club.

Nancy and Bill enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling the National Parks and historical sites, to the 1982 World’s Fair, and to various Boy Scout events.

Nancy is survived by her nephew, Donald Benn and his wife Jennifer, of Falls Creek; her nieces, Lisa Benn, of DuBois, Denise Kawecki and husband Michael of Frederick, Colorado, and Diane Kahle and husband Patrick of Sligo; great-nephew, Billy Kahle; great nieces, Allison Benn and Jaysa Kuntz; and great, great niece and nephew, Kayri and Oliver Cordova.

In addition to her parents and husband, Nancy was preceded in death by her sister, Leila Walker.

The family would like to thank all the people who served as Nancy’s caregivers over the years, and most recently the wonderful staff of Clarion Healthcare and Rehabilitation.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Permanent Memorial Endowment Fund, First Presbyterian Church of Clarion, 700 Wood Street, Clarion PA 16214.

Arrangements are under the care of the Goble Funeral Home and Crematory, 330 Wood Street in Clarion where visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Monday. An additional visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. on Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church of Clarion, 700 Wood Street, with funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Dr. Jonathan T. Scanlon officiating. Interment will be in the Clarion Cemetery.
