Thumbnail-34Geneva Rae Day, 84, formerly of Lexington passed away on Wednesday, November 30th, at Oakwood Heights in Oil City following a stroke. Geneva was born May 28th, 1932, to the late Stallard Daniel and Lula Harris Day.

Upon graduation from the University of Kentucky, in 1956, receiving her bachelor degree, she taught the elementary level at Fort Knox and became a reading specialist. Geneva moved to the Dayton, Ohio school system where she taught for 33 years, until her retirement in 1989.

She enjoyed reading, going out to eat with family and friends. She traveled all through the US and abroad.

Geneva had a strong faith in God, love of family, and respect for her profession. She was an active and faithful member of Epworth Methodist Church during her time in Lexington.

Geneva is survived by her nieces and nephews; Eric Day, and his wife, Denise, of Hermitage; Pam Desko, and her husband, Mike, of Polk; Jeff Day, and his wife, Michelle, of Kennerdell; Donna Day, of Petrolia, PA; Lisa Anderson, and her companion, Gary, of Franklin; Carla, Wentz, and her husband, Doug, of Woodland, PA; Evangeline Lynch, and her companion, Bob, of Furlong, PA. She is additionally survived by several great-nieces, great-nephews, and her sister-in-law, Mildred Day, of Polk.

In addition to her parents, Geneva was preceded in death by her brothers; Donald Day and Stallard Dan Day; her Nephew; Joe Day; and an infant nephew; Donald Day, Jr.

Services for Geneva will be held at the Lexington Cemetery on Monday, December 5th, at 10:00 AM, involving some of her many friends who were in the Epworth Youth Group in the 1950’s.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Franklin Public Library, 412 12th Street, Franklin, PA 16323, and/or the Alzheimer’s Association, PO Box 96011 Washington, DC, 20090-6011.
